Everything here arrived late

The news is old. That is the interesting part.

Space missions, life sciences, health and the Earth — a page each, written from what was measured rather than from the press release. Nothing you read about the sky is current: the light left a long time ago.

The light-time calculator

Put in a distance — kilometres, astronomical units, light years or parsecs — and it returns how long light takes to cross it, which is the same thing as how old the picture is. The presets are the objects this site has actually written about.

Corrections

Has a result here been overturned?

Science reporting ages in a specific way: the finding stands but the interpretation moves, or a follow-up fails to replicate it. If you know that has happened to something on this site, tell us and we will note it on the article.
